Today’s sketchy herb and magic rock are all about working with your chakra system, and opening a doorway for you to access magick and metaphysical knowledge. Lilacs are in bloom right now and the scent is literally intoxicating. Fire and Ice Quartz is full of cracks and fissures and rainbow mirrors that you can see in different lights.
Lilac
Element: Water
Chakra: All
Planet: Venus
Uses: Protection, energy clearing, chakra balancing and clearing, magical power, walking between world, peace, psychic abilities, romance and love, summoning and communicating with spirits, letting go of the past
Have you ever gone outside at twilight on a warm day while the lilacs are in bloom? It feels almost dangerous. Like you’re walking someplace you should be wary of. It’s the kind of smell that makes you believe in magick and spirits and faeries. It’s intoxicating. I’d follow that smell right over a cliff if you caught me during that magical inbetween time.
The energy of lilac is just like that, it’s trascendant and other worldly. It’s beautiful and romantic, sleepy and serene, and even downright spooky.
Lilacs are one of your best magickal allies when it comes to opening, clearing and balancing your chakras. Even just smelling lilacs in bloom can be enough to make you start feeling like you’re perfectly balanced between earth and the world of magic. You’re rooted here but not cut off from there. It’s associated with all chakras for this reason. You can find lilac sprays and incenses, but sweeping your aura with fresh cut lilacs is truly the coolest way to clear and balance your chakras, and clean up your aura or energy field.
Include lilac fragrance in anything you do involving meditation or psychic work. When your chakras are open they enable you to both recieve and project energy and magic better. Using lilac in your rituals can help you moe more easily between worlds or realms, can help facilitate a deeper connection during meditation (or sleep! it’s good for psychic dreams!) or casting. Fresh lilac blossoms can be used to call positive spirits to you, and also exorcise scary entities from your home or space.
Of course, like all lovely fragrant flowers, lilac is incredibly romantic. I don’t mean groping in the car after a burger romance either, lilacs are all about the whirldwind, dizzying, crazy kind of love. Love for the ages kind of love. Include dried lilac or the oil into your spells, use it to dress candles, make a lilac perfume, and you can even get lilac essence to add to a bottle of wine or even an ice cream cone. Flower Essences are a lot like Gem Elixirs, they don’t contain any actual plant material, but rther the essence or vibration of lilac in distilled water. If you sensitive to smells and perfumes, real lilac oil can be hard to come by, and the fake ones could be irritating. essences are a way to work with the flower if the scent is not appropriate for what you’re doing. (or if it’s the middle of winter!)

Fire and Ice Quartz
Chakra: All
Uses: Overcoming negativity, balancing all chakras, cleansing and purification, connection to higher dimensions, facilitating communication with spirits, transformation, personal growth, healing
Fire and Ice Quartz is so named because their unique design is made by rapid heating and then cooling. Some is naturally made this way, and some in man-made. Either way, the inside of this incredible quartz is filled with cracks that form rainbow mirrors that sparkle and shine in different light. It’s almost like a prism but without an obvious geometric type structure. Every piece is different, but they all have these gorgeous rainbows sparkling from the center.
I had never seen this stone until I walked into my local crystal shop and POW there it was! I couldn’t stop looking at it and excitedly picked one that stands like a nice point and has tons of rainbows. I haven’t been able to stop looking at it since. It’s captivating!

This piece of quartz mirrors a lot of the same energy of the Lilac (duh, that’s why I picked it lol), like balancing and opening all of your chakras, cleansing your aura and energetic field, connecting you to spirit and other worlds, and clears negativity. It’s also incredibly healing, and if you’re into angels it’s usually associated with Archangel Raphael.
This stone works with all chakras, but it’s especially powerful for opening and connecting your upper chakras, you know, the really spiritual ones. It helps your crown, soul star, and star gate chakras open and form a bridge between this world and other planes of existance. This helps you recieve messages and energy from spirit more easily, and helps you access energy like your Akashic Records.
This stone has a lot of energy when held, so much it can be a little intense. I don’t take it anywhere. I leave it at home in a brightly lit place where I can always see it. I bring it to my altar when I’m meditating, manifesting or spell casting and love to hold it and just feel my chakras being cleaned and balanced at the end of a long day.
Fire and Ice quartz is a stone of transformation and profound growth, so if you’re looking to make some real changes in your life you might find that this stone makes that hard work just a little easier. It helps you recieve and interperet messages from spirit or magick – be that spirit guides, ghosts, divinations, or even just your own instinct and intuition – so that you can do the emotional and spiritual work needed.

Soulful Crystals
Looking for other sketchy herbs and magick rocks to work with your chakras? Try lotus incense, rose water or fresh roses, amethyst and obsidian. Rose is said to have the highest vibration of any living thing on earth, and is amazing for cleansing and clearing. Amethyst is, of course, the best healer in the world and is excellent for clearing negativity and blocks while opening us up to spirituality. Obsidian cleanses the auric field and can help with balance, but has a more grounding energy.

Do you have any experience using “fragrance oils,” as opposed to essential oils or dried herbs? Lilac sounds like EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for in my craft lately (seriously, it checks every box on my “herbs I need to look out for” list!), but I can’t find just the dried flowers for sale on their own, and apparently its essential oil can’t be distilled. I can’t grow it myself because I don’t have a yard and it doesn’t do well in pots. I really don’t have any way to get my hands on the real deal.
I found a fragrance oil that smells JUST like real lilac, but I’m cautious to use it as a substitute because it isn’t true lilac. I’m a new witch and still figuring this stuff out. Do you have any experience with this sort of thing?
